the world’s most widely consumed and probably oldest alcoholic beverage; it is the third most popular drink overall, after water and tea. It is produced by the brewing and fermentation of sugars, mainly derived from malted cereal grains, most commonly malted barley and malted wheat. Sugars derived from maize (corn) and rice are widely used adjuncts because of their lower cost. Most beer is flavored with hops, which add bitterness and act as a natural preservative, though other flavorings such as herbs or fruit may occasionally be included.

Being one of the world’s oldest drinks, humans have had a long time to tinker with the recipe and so there are a lot of beers out there. Every week, for a year, I’ve been reviewing one. Fifty-two weeks of beer. Asterisks denote beers I rated the highest.

  1. Oh man great list. Lately I’ve been drinking lots of PBR with margarita mix or tabasco tossed in. Gives it a salty spice taste and keeps me drinking. Probably not great for my organ linings though.
